Lamp designed for Penumbra Gallery

[ Open Design Call. 2025 ]

For Penumbra Gallery´s annual "Umbrales" open call last October 2025, in collaboration with my designer and my dear friend @Yvette Rosado and I designed a table lamp exploring the threshold as a meeting point between Mexican and Japanese culture. We started from an observation both traditions share: the subtle light present in rituals and offerings, marking the line between life and death, between what is visible and what is honored through absence. We built the piece from washi paper and a Mexican wrought-iron structure, letting light dwell without passing through, it illuminates without fully revealing. We gave it a conical form that traces that same divide: past and present, opening and containment, two worlds touching without fully merging.
